SMP’s Review of Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock
Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock is my go-to spot when I crave comfort food that reminds me of home. I recently visited and indulged in a few of their classics.
I started with the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng. The aromatic rice, perfectly paired with crispy fried chicken, sambal, and a side of anchovies and eggs, hit all the right notes. It’s a must-try for any nasi lemak lover.
Next, I tried their Mee Rebus. The noodles soaked up the rich, sweet potato gravy, making each bite flavorful and satisfying. The Hainanese Chicken Chop was another highlight. The fried chicken, covered in savory Hainanese sauce, was tender and juicy. It’s a dish that never disappoints.
For drinks, I went with the classic Teh Tarik and Kopi O. The Teh Tarik was creamy and smooth, while the Kopi O had that strong, traditional taste that I love.
However, the Roti Bakar Kaya didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The toast felt a bit dry, and the kaya spread wasn’t as flavorful as I hoped. It could use a little improvement.
Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock delivers on most fronts. The food is comforting, and the drinks are refreshing. There’s always something here that brings back good memories of Malaysian flavors.
